The ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme launched by the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is a significant initiative aimed at addressing the housing needs of deserving families.

Here are the key highlights and details of this scheme:

Objective and Scope:

The primary goal of the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar‘ scheme is to construct 50,000 houses initially, with plans to extend support to a total of 100,000 families across Punjab.

This ambitious project aims to provide accessible and affordable housing options to low-income families.

Target Cities:

The scheme will initially be rolled out in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Sargodha, ensuring broad coverage and accessibility to eligible applicants.

Financial Assistance:

To ease the financial burden on prospective buyers, the scheme offers a substantial 60 percent subsidy.

Buyers are required to make only a 40 percent down payment, with the remaining amount payable in easy installments spread over five years.

Initial Phase:

In the first phase, 5,000 apartments will be constructed near Raiwind Road in Lahore, marking the beginning of this significant endeavor.

The apartments will be made available for purchase with monthly installments as low as Rs 26,000, making homeownership achievable for individuals with low incomes.

Quality Assurance and Model Houses:

The scheme emphasizes sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Prototype houses will be constructed within six weeks to showcase the design and features of the upcoming housing units, instilling confidence among prospective buyers regarding the quality and standards of the houses.

Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria include:

  • Individuals employed in government institutions with monthly earnings within the low-income bracket.
  • Monthly income not exceeding 60,000 rupees.
  • Priority given to individuals and families who do not currently own a home.
  • Applicants living below the poverty line as per government standards.
