A horrifying shooting incident unfolded on a Wednesday evening, leaving at least 22 people dead and a substantial number injured.
The city grappled with the aftermath as local officials reported the assailant was still at large.
City Councilor Robert McCarthy conveyed the grim news to CNN, disclosing that the death toll had tragically risen to 22. The shooting rampage spanned multiple locations, including a bowling alley and at least one local restaurant and bar, according to various media reports.
McCarthy explained, “My understanding is that they have a tentative identification… of the shooter at the bowling alley, confirmed 22 dead, many, many more injured.”
Local authorities took to social media, posting a photograph of the armed suspect on Facebook, brandishing what appeared to be a semi-automatic firearm within the confines of the bowling alley.
Described as a bearded man wearing a brown top, blue pants, and brown shoes, the police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the individual.
In addition to the image of the suspect, authorities released a photo of a white SUV, seeking assistance from the community in identifying the vehicle.
They noted that its front bumper may have been painted black.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement via Facebook, confirming that they were investigating two active shooter events, urging local businesses to initiate lockdowns or closures as they continued their investigation.
The suspect remained at large, and the situation remained volatile.
The White House announced that President Joe Biden had been briefed on the matter, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Maine Governor Janet Mills expressed her awareness and concern, noting that she had been briefed on the ongoing active shooter situation in Lewiston.

CNN reported that the total number of injuries reached at least 50 to 60 individuals, citing multiple law enforcement sources. It remained unclear how many of these injuries were a direct result of gunfire.
The incident unfolded when police and rescue teams swiftly responded to an active shooter situation at the Sparetime Recreation bowling alley at approximately 7:15 pm local time.
Subsequently, reports of another shooting emerged, this time at Schemengees Bar & Grille, as documented by the Sun Journal, a local newspaper.
At 8:15 pm, another shooting was reported at a local Walmart distribution center, it said.
