IG Punjab says the abusive constable seen in the viral video is suffering from mental illness.
The abusive police constable seen in the viral video on social media was suffering from a mental ailment and was seeking treatment for it, according to Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Usman Anwar.
Anwar gave this comment following video footage of a police officer harassing and punching a reporter on a crowded route.
When the reporter addressed the provincial police head and requested him to take note of the policeman’s behavior, the police constable screamed profanity at him.

He said ”presently, he is undergoing treatment to recover from his mental condition”.
”Screening and treatment of 200,000 employees of the police force against 10 diseases is going to be completed soon. Most police officers and personnel are suffering from unnecessary fear due to psychological profiling. The purpose of this screening is to identify the employees suffering from psychological diseases and provide them treatment and counseling.”
According to Anwar, the goal of psychological screening is not to injure or terminate an employee. Employees with psychiatric illnesses will be referred to appropriate doctors.
Usman Anwar is a Pakistani police official who has been the Inspector General of the Punjab Police in the Pakistani state of Punjab since January 24, 2023.
The Punjab Police has been accused of arbitrary arrests, custodial abuse, harassment, and forced disappearances when he was in charge.
