Why Emmy Awards are postponed?

According to a report from the US insider site Variety, vendors engaged in the 75th Primetime Emmys have been officially advised that the ceremony would not be telecast on September 18 as originally planned.

Fox is anticipated to make an announcement soon about moving the Emmys to January of next year.

However, the awards will be placed in January 2024 only if the studios and guilds achieve an agreement before then.

This is the first time that the Emmys have been postponed since the 9/11 attacks. The ongoing SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes have resulted in a massive shutdown of Hollywood, with both actors and writers picketing film and television production businesses.

The unions’ major worries include contract inflation, reasonable residual payments in the streaming era, and protection against the possible use of AI to produce and replace human likenesses.

Many high-profile Hollywood figures, like Mark Ruffalo and Susan Sarandon, have expressed support for the strikes and have been spotted on picket lines.

Despite the strikes, the candidates for the 2023 Emmys were released earlier this month. HBO shows like “Succession,” “The Last of Us,” and “The White Lotus” lead the field with the most nominations.

Notably, “Succession” made history with its nominations, as stars Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong are all up for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, the most actors ever nominated from the same show in this category.
