Yasmin Rashid acquitted by ATC in Corps Commander's House attack case

Yasmin Rashid was acquitted by ATC in Corps Commander’s House attack case. On Saturday, a Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid in the Corps Commander’s House attack case.

The court denied the police request for physical remand of the PTI leader in its decision.

According to the ATC order, the investigating officer requested a 14-day physical remand of Yasmin for photogrammetry, voice match tests, and mobile phone retrieval.

A review of the record finds that neither Dr. Yasmin nor the additional statement is named in the first information report (FIR). The court stated that she was summoned in this matter based on the disclosure of the co-accused, which has no “evidentiary value in the eyes of law.”

Because no conclusive proof linking her to the commission of the offense is available on record, the investigating officer’s request is denied, and she is therefore released from the case, according to the order.

As Yasmin Rashid was acquitted by ATC in Corps Commander’s House attack case, according to the ruling, the PTI leader should be released immediately “if not required in any other case.”

After violent protests on May 9 against the detention of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, she was detained by the Punjab Police on May 17 under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

Following that, complaints were filed against Yasmin at the Sarwar Road, Gulberg, and Shadman police stations in Lahore for her alleged involvement in the May 9 riots. Sections of these cases dealt with terrorism and other serious offenses.

Last Thursday, an anti-terrorism court sentenced her to 14 days in jail on judicial remand in the case.
