All about Miftah Ismail's new political party "Awaam Pakistan"

Miftah Ismail’s new political party “Awaam Pakistan” is on the cards.

Miftah Ismail, a former leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has unveiled plans to launch a new political party, Awaam Pakistan (AP), with the official launch scheduled for July 6 in Islamabad.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the ex-Prime Minister, will serve as the party’s first convener.

Ismail emphasized that Awaam Pakistan aims to transform the country’s governance system, placing the general public at the heart of decision-making.

He disclosed that the party is in active discussions with several notable politicians nationwide to join their initiative.

Among those who have already committed to Awaam Pakistan are former PML-N leaders Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi, Javed Abbasi, Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Rana Zahid Tauseef, Zahid Binnouri, and Sardar Anwar Soomro. Additionally, Dr. Zafar Mirza and Sheikh Salahuddin are set to be part of the new party.

This announcement comes in the wake of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s departure from PML-N due to internal disagreements.

Abbasi, who led the country as Prime Minister from August 2017 to May 2018, recently registered the new party with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) under the Election Act 2017.

He intends to run in the next elections under the Awaam Pakistan banner.

Miftah Ismail’s Awaam Pakistan follows significant political realignments in Pakistan, including the creation of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) by Jahangir Tareen and the PTI Parliamentarians by Pervez Khattak.

Both Tareen and Khattak, formerly associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have established their own parties, drawing numerous defectors from PTI.
