Shahid Afridi reveals why he chose Shaheen Afridi as his son-in-law. In a recent interview, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi shed light on the reasons behind his daughter’s marriage to the renowned fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The 23-year-old fast seamer tied the knot with Afridi’s second daughter in a low-key Nikah ceremony held in February, followed by more elaborate wedding ceremonies in September 2023 in Karachi and Islamabad.
Afridi disclosed that discussions between the two families had been ongoing for a considerable period leading up to the union.
While he acknowledged that he did not personally know Shaheen, the families had a preexisting connection, although they had lost contact over time.
The decision to proceed with the marriage was primarily rooted in a belief in fundamental human qualities.

Afridi stressed that the character and maturity of Shaheen Shah Afridi, as attested to by those who had interacted with him during domestic cricket, played a pivotal role in the decision-making process.
As Shahid Afridi reveals why he chose Shaheen Afridi as his son-in-law, speaking on a private news channel, Afridi said that the two families were in touch on this matter for a long time.
“Shaheen’s family was in touch with my family on this topic for a long time. A human should be a human, that is the most important thing,” Afridi added. “He is a great human. I didn’t know him personally, the elders of our family used to know one another, but we lost contact [with each other].”
The star cricketer also said, “So whoever was playing domestic cricket with Shaheen praised his attitude and lauded him as a human being saying that he was very mature. So all those things were important for me that a human is a human.”
During the interview, the former cricketing legend was also asked about offers he had received to venture into the world of acting, including opportunities from the Indian film industry.
Afridi revealed that he had been approached multiple times with acting offers, but he had never seriously considered pursuing a career in the movies.
He emphasized that his identity was firmly rooted in the world of cricket, and he never envisioned himself as an actor.
While he did dabble in acting through television commercials, it was the extent to which he ventured beyond the realm of cricket, as acting wasn’t a field his family had any background in.
