Early Monday, reports surfaced that Pakistani sports journalist Zainab Abbas had been deported from India for “anti-Hindu” social media statements dating back years.
Following the publication of the reports, it was verified that the World Cup 2023 presenter had departed India after an Indian lawyer filed a complaint against her for allegedly making “anti-Hindu” remarks.
The lawyer reportedly sought the police to file a case against Abbas for allegedly making anti-India and anti-Hindu comments.
Abbas was appointed as one of the World Cup presenters earlier this month. When the announcement was made, the presenter was ecstatic about the possibility to visit to India.
Was Zainab Abbas deported from India?
However, when The Asian Mirror contacted the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the pressing subject, the organization denied that the presented had been forcefully returned to Pakistan.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) acknowledged to The Asian Mirror that the broadcaster had left the country for “personal reasons” and denied rumours of deportation.
Netizens also supported the sports Journalist and chastised Indian authorities for failing to ensure the safety of the presenter, who felt compelled to leave the country.
Zainab Abbas was born in Lahore to Nasir Abbas, a domestic cricketer, and Andleeb Abbas, a politician. She attended Aston University in Birmingham before graduating with an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Warwick. She then spent two years at Harrods working for Dolce & Gabbana.
