Recently, a bank robbery in the United States was foiled after a quick-thinking cashier persuaded the thief to take a seat until police officers arrived to arrest him. Here’s how a present-minded Bank employee in the US foiled a robbery attempt.

The strange incident, according to SkyNews, happened on Friday, July 7, at a bank in Florida.

With a mesh bag and a note demanding money, the robber, identified as James Timothy Kelly, entered the PNC Bank in Hollywood.

“Give me the money,” it read.

According to the affidavit, Mr. Kelly entered the bank and presented the note to a cashier who pretended not to see it.

Instead, fearing for her and others’ safety, the employee handed Mr. Kelly a withdrawal paper to fill up. “I am not here for that,” Mr Kelly replied. “I’m here to rob you.”

At this time, the cashier feigned to have computer problems and requested that the thief “take a seat.”

“In fear of her safety and the safety of others around her, the victim bank teller pretended to have computer issues and asked Kelly to take a seat,” the affidavit stated.

Mr. Kelly is reported to have obeyed the cashier, but his obedience ended in a botched theft. Police were called to the bank while the robber waited, according to SkyNews.

Officers entered the bank through the back door and apprehended Mr. Kelly while he sat in the foyer.

Mr Kelly was arrested and transferred to the FBI’s Miami office, where he admitted to attempted robbery.

He now faces up to 20 years in prison for his botched theft attempt.
