The Karoonjhar Mountain is not just a natural wonder but also a symbol of pride for the people of Sindh. Its unique geological features, breathtaking landscapes, and rich biodiversity have attracted visitors from far and wide. Moreover, it holds great spiritual significance for many, as it houses numerous ancient temples and shrines that have withstood the test of time.

It attracts tourists and nature enthusiasts who come to explore its natural beauty, hike its trails, and enjoy panoramic views from its peaks. It is a popular destination for adventure activities, such as rock climbing and camping, offering visitors a chance to experience the rugged charm of this unique mountain range.

The area around Karoonjhar Mountain is rich in biodiversity and is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including species adapted to the harsh desert environment. The range is also known for its cultural and historical significance, with ancient rock carvings and ruins of historical settlements scattered throughout its Karoonjhar Mountain is known for its rugged and picturesque landscape, featuring arid hills, rocky cliffs, and deep gorges. The range is composed mainly of limestone and sandstone, which have been shaped over millions of years by erosion and weathering processes.

Tharparkar is a unique fertile desert in the world having a great number of flora and fauna, valuable granite, very old igneous rocks, huge sand dunes, china clay, and much more. It has a great mountainous range Karoonjhar but isn’t just about mountainous peaks or mountain and tourist spots, it has been the indigenous, deeply embedded part of Thar identity, cultural history, and Social fabric since time immemorial.

Sindh government’s mineral and mines department has issued an auction tender notice regarding Karoonjhar mountain. Which was then condemned by Sindhi people on social media and through protests. On huge pressure, ministers became bound to condemn and take notice. But again yesterday, 29 July same department issued a notice in the newspaper. But it should be clear that a person or a company has no right nor authority to make any decision about any cultural heritage, without taking into account the concerns of local residents there.

Tharparkar has already lost its natural beauty and environment in coal mining. We were batter before mining, Wadera, companies, and our strangers only benefited, The local population suffers from such “decisions”, They don’t have water, food, and shelter, but They lack a better health and education system, help us improve that. We’re naturally blessed with what we’ve, you don’t have the right to snatch or deprive us of what’s ours!

The illegal auction of the Karoonjhar Mountain, a significant cultural heritage of Sindh, is a matter of great concern. This majestic mountain holds immense historical, cultural, and ecological value for the region, deeply rooted in the lives and traditions of the local communities.

It is distressing to witness the disregard for the sanctity and importance of this landmark as it falls victim to illegal auctions. Such actions not only disrupt the delicate ecological balance but also erode the cultural fabric of the region. The plundering of this heritage is a loss for both the present and future generations.

Preserving the Karoonjhar Mountain is essential for the continued appreciation of our collective history and culture. It is crucial that authorities take swift and decisive action to put an end to these illegal activities and protect this invaluable cultural heritage. Efforts must be made to raise awareness about the significance of this mountain and engage local communities in its preservation to ensure its longevity for generations to come.
