Divorces have increased since women started working, says Saeed Anwar.

Saeed Anwar’s recent comments regarding the increase in divorce rates and the role of women entering the workforce have sparked controversy online.

In a video circulating on social media, Anwar claims that divorces in Pakistan have risen by nearly 30% over the past three years, linking this trend to the growing number of women pursuing careers.

He suggests that women’s financial independence leads them to assert control over their households as they see fit.

“Since women have started working in Pakistan, divorces have increased by 30 per cent in the last three years,” Saeed Anwar said in the video that has gone viral on social media.

“The wives say, ‘to hell with you, I can earn myself. I can run a household on my own’. This is a whole game plan. You will not understand this game plan unless you find guidance,” he added.

“I have travelled the world. I am just returning from Australia, Europe. Youngsters are suffering, families are in bad shape. Couples are fighting. The state of affairs is so bad that they have to make their women work for money,” the former Pakistan cricketer is heard commenting in the video.

“New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson called me to ask, ‘How will our society get better?’… The Australian mayor said to me, ‘Our culture has been destroyed since our women entered the workforce,’” he further said.

These remarks have drawn significant criticism from social media users.

It’s important to recognize that attributing rising divorce rates solely to women’s participation in the workforce oversimplifies complex social dynamics.

Women entering the workforce represents progress and empowerment, not a cause of marital discord.

Research often indicates that economic independence can contribute to healthier relationships and greater equality within marriages.

Blaming women for seeking financial independence and autonomy is unjust and outdated.

Every individual deserves the right to pursue their aspirations and make decisions about their lives without facing judgment or prejudice.

Healthy relationships are founded on mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration, rather than rigid gender roles or outdated stereotypes.
