Netizens react as heavy rains cause potholes on Lahore’s Canal Road. On Saturday, several sinkholes appeared on a major road in Lahore as a result of torrential rains that wrecked the infrastructure.

Several sinkholes emerged on Canal Road, a key route utilized daily by hundreds of thousands. People crossing the artery captured the heartbreaking images and published them online as the sinkhole opened, sparking a new debate.

The surroundings of Canal Road near the Garden Town underpass have also become weak, prompting authorities to close the road to all traffic. However, no accidents were reported as a result of these sinkholes, according to local media.

Officials stated that the main road will be renovated as soon as the rain stops and the inundated water is removed.

As the videos spread, social media users, journalists, and activists decried the shoddy construction and demanded that construction companies be held accountable.

This is not the first such incident in Lahore; dozens of sinkholes have emerged in prior years, typically during monsoon seasons, and the city has been receiving rainfall for several weeks.

It is situated in the northeast of the country with River Ravi flowing northwest of the city. It is the capital of the province of Punjab, where it is the largest city.
